2nd NKN Annual Workshop

A presentation was made by Dr. OP Kharbanda, Prof. and Head, Department of Orthodontics, AIIMS, New Delhi on the topic " CollabDDS: A Novel Collaborative Tool for Health Care and Education" at the Second NKN Annual Workshop held at IISc, Bangalore on 17th October 2013.

A presentation was made by Dr. Savita Dawar, Senior Technical Director and Head, CollabCAD, NIC, New Delhi on the topic " Collaborative Technologies for CAD and Medical/Dental Applications- CollabCAD & CollabDDS " at the Second NKN Annual Workshop held at IISc, Bangalore on 19th October 2013. This was followed by a demonstration of the features of CollabDDS by Dr. Deva Senathipathy Kandasamy, Assistant Professor, Department of Radio Diagnosis, AIIMS, New Delhi.

Abstract: "CollabDDS: A Novel Collaborative Tool for Health Care and Education"

Collaborative Digital Diagnosis System provides an integrated collaborative environment which allows collaboration by virtue of simultaneous visualization, annotations and manipulations of medical and dental images such as digitized X-Ray images, digital X rays, MDCT, MRI data (DICOM) for diagnosis and treatment planning in real time using low latency and high bandwidth of NKN network. CollabDDS is the outcome of synergy of expertise of several domains which includes health sciences, radiologists, dental specialists, software engineers, and digital imaging experts who worked together on a Model Project funded by National Knowledge Network Commission. These experts belong to National Informatics Centre (NIC), Departments of Orthodontics and Radiodiagnosis, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay (IITB) and Central Scientific Instruments Organization (CSIO), Chandigarh. CollabDDS allows primary /secondary health care centres and medical/dental colleges connect to experts at Centres of Excellence to seek expert opinion say on an X-ray image or use case studies for education and even exchange image data files for collaboration in research. We are in the process of testing CollabDDS at different locations in the country. Further developments are in progress which includes enhancing automated dental/orthodontic cephalometric analysis (AutoCEPH), 3D surface dental scans, statistical shape models of selected bone anatomies of Indian population, based on CT data sets and algorithms for reconstruction of approximate 3-D models from two X-Ray images. ....See More

Abstract: "Collaborative Technologies for CAD and Medical/Dental Applications- CollabCAD & CollabDDS"

CollabCAD is a 3D CAD/ PLM/ERP Software system for collaborative design & development of Industrial Designs. It provides a total solution from product design, numerical control, visualization, simulation, analysis to content management, workflow and office automation. CollabCAD is an initiative of National Informatics Centre, New Delhi, Bhabha Atomic Research Center, Mumbai and Vikram Sarabhai Space Center, Trivandrum. Besides the conventional CAD/CAM features, CollabCAD also provides a collaborative framework for CAD professionals to work across a network and concurrently access the same design for viewing and modification. Collaboration during design/assembly facilitates rapid product visualization and drastically cuts down the time for requirement specification, modeling, review and analysis. Computer Aided Design is traditionally used to assist in engineering design and modeling. Advances in Information Technology and in Biomedicine have created new uses for CAD with many novel and important biomedical applications. CollabDDS: Collaborative Digital Diagnosis System is an extension of CollabCAD to Biomedical Applications and is an outcome of the Model Project “Network Enabled Medical Diagnosis and Education in Skeletal Imaging using X-Rays” funded by the National Knowledge Network. The project was undertaken as a Proof of Concept to provide a network based system for radiological diagnosis and dental planning using X-Rays.
